Give'r
Suggest a CorrectionMeaning
Put in maximum effort, go hard, or proceed with full enthusiasm. Current, informal, and energetic Regional use: Canada, especially Western Canada and sporting contexts.
Origin
A Canadian informal contraction of give her, especially prominent in sport. DCHP finds increased Canadian frequency and evidence of a hockey-cliche background, but does not claim certain Canadian coinage. A separate Western Canadian sense, party hard, is documented before the 2003 film FUBAR and was greatly popularised by it. The effort sense is broader and safer as the public definition.
